SN 54.9 Vesālī: suicide of scores of bhikkhus because of asubha practice. ananda says: "it would be good if the blessed one explained another method of establishing final knowledge." 16 steps of APSS
SN 54.10 Kimbila: (name of monk): 4 tetrads of APSS fulfill 4 tetrads of satipatthana. Up until this point they were just 16 steps, not explicitly correlated with 4sp. SN 54.2 does however give the license to combine any of 7sb with 16 APS as you see fit.
SN 54.11 Icchānaṅgala: buddha does 3 month vassa solitary retreat using 16 steps of APSS.
Says if people ask what he did during retreat, should tell them he abides in noble dwelling, tathagatha's dwelling.
